The idea of the creators
The Ernest and Rebeka series is a real bestseller in the French-speaking publishing market. It quickly gained excellent readership and the best reviews from reviewers, and in 2013 it also won an award at the Angoulême Comic Festival. The originator of Ernest and Rebecca is Guillaume Bianco. The screenwriter, who made his debut with the series Kegoyo & Klaudia in 1998, also wrote Billy Brouillard and participated in prestigious collective projects, incl. L’Atelier Mastodonte . The cartoonist involved in the series is Italian graphic artist Antonello Dalena, who has experience in designing Disney characters. He has also been involved in many projects, including Sybilor Monster Allegry . Undoubtedly, Ernest and Rebekah are one of their most successful comic book children, and this collaboration will give them undisputed publicity.
I am Rebecca, and this is Ernest’s microbe
The title character of the series is already six years old, or in fact almost seven, according to the content of the comic. She matures and her view of reality changes. The girl decides, among other things detach the extra wheels from your bike, which turns out to be a bad idea at first. Relative adulthood is also associated with new challenges – unraveling the mystery of the Red Witch, lending a helping hand to the teacher, Mr. Rebaud, and saving a friend from the hands of a mad scientist. Rebecca has no fear of failure and sets out to conquer the world with her devoted companions known as the school pirate squad. Ernest and Rebecca is a fascinating story about the adventures of a little girl that will appeal to younger readers, teenagers and adults alike.
Through the eye of the reviewer
The Ernest and Rebecca series is remarkable in its simplicity. On the one hand, the heroes repeatedly bring a smile to our lips, on the other, we observe how they deal with problems, for example, Rebeka constantly gets into trouble, trying to save the world from omnipresent danger, while her sister Korala rebels and learns about the world of stimulants. However, we get to know not only the perspective of the younger heroines, but also their parents. This makes the comic book an excellent read for both younger and older audiences. Egmont publishing house got us used to the fact that the series Ernest and Rebeccais published as a collective comic book (the volume contains three original publications). Each of them has over one hundred pages, which guarantees entertainment for a few hours, and it’s for less than PLN 40! For some, a thin cover may be problematic, but for me it is not a drawback, taking into account the age of the readers. So if you want to laugh, reflect on reality, or just read and watch the adventures of the little microbe and his babysitter, don’t hesitate. Ernest and Rebecca is a light comic book with a captivating storyline that unfortunately only has eight volumes.
