The title character – Fibi – is a talented student, but has a lot of trouble to establish closer relations with her peers. The appearance of a unicorn in her life allows the girl to gain self-confidence, especially since the animal has extraordinary abilities that make it the most fantastic of the fantastic: it uses magic and can fulfill wishes. There is only one problem – Marigold is in love with … herself (when she sees her reflection in a mirror, for example, she forgets about the world around her and focuses only on her beauty). In this volume, Fibi and Marigold will try to solve the mystery of a mysterious storm that caused the whole town of Tipton to run out of electricity. The cause is not winter bad weather, but most likely magical forces! Fibi and Marigold must close ranks and include Maks in the ranks of their company, who cannot play his favorite games without electricity, as well as Dakota – a friend of the title character from school – and her host of goblins. Collaboration can save a city, although the source of the problem must first be found out.

Fibi and the unicorn is a series for children. However, I am convinced that it will surely delight also adults who like … unicorns, which are popular creatures from the magical bestiary (Marigold is female, which makes her unique in the universe!). The story told in the comic book is multidimensional – the author presents the world around the characters in an uncomplicated way, and at the same time deals with serious topics related to, among others, with the acceptance of another human being, regardless of gender, orientation or beliefs. Comic strip strips consist of a few frames, so they do not unnecessarily distract the audience from the plot complexities on individual pages. Fibi and the unicornis a comic book primarily about heroines (the author introduces to her world, among others, a homosexual couple who jointly take care of their son). The male perspective appears rarely, but this does not change the fact that the content is universal and both girls and boys will feel the pleasure of reading it. I think that when you read the Simpson proposal, you will appreciate the hilarious gags that fit into the artistic concept of the comic. Also, the specific line, which is a combination of realistic and cartoon elements, is undoubtedly characteristic and you will not forget it quickly. Fibi and the unicorn is a beautifully rendered comic. A5 size and chalky paper can be liked. I miss the hard cover a bit, but the reason is pragmatic – I really don’t like bent corners.

Dana Simpson quickly gained critical acclaim. Her series Fibi and the unicorn , initially published in the form of a webcomic, is called an American bestseller, a collection of the best comic strips since the days of Calvin and Hobes Bill Watterson and the Peanuts of Charles Schultz (the more important difference – Fibi and the unicorn was not dominated by philosophical considerations). For her comics about Fibi and Marigold, Simpson received two important awards in the children’s creativity category. Six volumes have been published in Poland, original – 13, so we are in the middle! The originator of the series is also known from other graphic stories, dedicated primarily to older readers: Raine Dog, I Drew This orOzy and Millie.
