As reported by Deadline, Adam Wingard, the director of Godzilla vs. Kong, which has recently premiered, is working on another project. This is to be a full-length adaptation of the beloved 1980s animated series “ThunderCats” for Warner Bros. The series tells the story of humanoid cats fighting to survive and save the species on Dunder’s desolate planet, against incredible adversities. The first draft of the script was written by David Coggeshall, and Wingard and his frequent colleague Simon Barret rewrite the new draft. The film will use an animated series as a starting point that will become a hybrid of both live and CGI gaming.
Wingard told Deadline that he was obsessed with ThunderCats from childhood, which resulted in writing the script in his spare time. The design is his dream and the effect must be captivating.
I actually spent most of my 10th grade year, I completely fucked it up. I wasn’t paying attention in school, my grades were terrible. And the reason? I was writing the ThunderCats script all through the 10th grade. And I wrote it by hand. The script itself was 272 pages long. It is a great passion for me. Nobody on this planet knows or thought about ThunderCats as much as I do. I want to make a movie about ThunderCats that takes you back to the aesthetics of the 1980s. I don’t want to reinvent their looks; I want them to look like ThunderCats.
ThunderCats was created by Tobin “Ted” Wolf, with the original animated series running from 1985 to 1989, from which toys, comics, video games and more were created.
