He is characterized not only by extraordinary acting talent, but also commitment to social affairs. Today, January 13, Orlando Bloom celebrates his birthday. What made him one of the highest-paid actors in the world?

Orlando Bloom was born on January 13, 1977 in Canterburry, UK. It can be said that he was associated with art from birth – he owes his name to the famous composer, Orlando Gibbons, who composed in the 17th century. He started his education in his hometown, but due to dyslexia he experienced many problems with learning. However, he was good at horseback riding, photography and poetry. It was also there that he encountered acting for the first time, taking part in school plays.

He won many recitation competitions, was active in the local theater and participated in the Kent Festival many times. Acting ambition pushed him to move to London at the age of only 16. He was active at the National Youth Theater, which opened the way for him to receive a scholarship from the prestigious British American Drama Academy. Like many aspiring actors of this age, he has also tried his hand at minor shows such as The Midsomer Murders and Smack the Pony .

He also attended the British American Drama Academy acting school, where he suffered his first (of many) accidents. A fall from the third floor and a spinal injury almost did not end with the actor’s paralysis or death, but a year later he appeared on stage again, and during one of the performances, Peter Jackson himself appeared in the audience.

He began work on The Lord of the Rings shortly after , though he originally applied for the role of Faramir. This production was definitely the beginning of his great career and opened the door to further film successes. He later starred in Pirates of the Caribbean as Will Turner and portrayed Paris in Troy . He has also appeared in the films Elizabethtown, Kingdom of Heaven and The Hobbit .

Orlando Bloom is a Buddhist member of Soka Gakkai International. He is also active in the environmental association Global Green and is a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, getting involved in the pressing problems of the modern world.

He has won 9 awards for his work, including the European Film Academy and the American Guild of Film Actors. Interestingly, in 2015 he was awarded by Filmweb in the “What ?!” category. The competition was won by a scene from the movie The Battle of the Five Armies , in which Legolas jumps on falling stones.
