The people of Eruin Dulei have suffered a lot. Witches appeared in the history of these lands, and although their powers did not always dominate the island, they could cause great harm. However, where evil lurks, good also appears, ready to resist it. It is no different in this case.
A story in four acts
Complaints of the Lost Lands is a cumulative volume in four parts, which together form a complete cycle. They are closely related and it is best to read the whole thing, but it could easily be divided into two separate stories. The plot, although not too complicated, can catch the reader’s attention and simply draw him into the world of heroes.
Even before the action of the comic begins, there is a short introduction, presenting some events from the past of the land in which the events take place. Then we meet the main character – Sioban. She is the daughter of the rightful ruler of the island who died fighting the evil mage Bedlam. As you can easily guess, the militant protagonist will have to face evil in order to gain her rightful power. However, this will not be the end of the story.
Too simple heroes
The characters in the comic are a bit too black and white. The bad heroes are basically corrupted and the good ones are almost flawless. It is true that in the reminiscences there are memories of characters that were not perfect, but the whole thing is oversimplified. It’s a pity, because the created world would allow for more shades of gray.
Twórcy zadbali o to, by bohaterowie stojący po stronie prawości byli sympatyczni, zaś ci, którzy im się sprzeciwiają, wzbudzali antypatię. W większości wypadków widać to wyraźnie już w sposobie, w jaki zostali narysowani. Pojawiają się wyjątki od tej reguły ale nie są one bardzo liczne. Takie uproszczenia, pomimo wad, mają przynajmniej tę zaletę, że naprawdę łatwo jest połapać się w działaniach postaci. Co ciekawe, ta konstrukcja bohaterów nie przeszkadza w odbiorze komiksu. Mogłoby się wydawać, że powinno to spowodować, że historia będzie zbyt nudna, ale tak się jednak nie dzieje.
Piękne ilustracje
Album przykuwa uwagę już od pierwszej chwili. Duży format (nieco większy od A4) i twarda oprawa sprawiają, że wygląda dość imponująco. Czytanie tak sporego komiksu wymaga odpowiednich warunków – robienie tego w autobusie raczej nie wchodzi w grę, ale przy wygodnym fotelu czy dobrym krześle można się nim rozkoszować.
Od strony graficznej Skarga Utraconych Ziem prezentuje się naprawdę dobrze. Styl Rosińskiego nie jest może najpiękniejszy na świecie, ale jest naprawdę bardzo dobry. Co więcej, ma w sobie to „coś”, co sprawia, że kolejne kadry chce się oglądać. Format wydania zaś ułatwia rozkoszowanie się nimi.
It is worth adding that some additional drawings have been added both at the beginning and at the end of the volume. Many of them are sketches, including very schematic ones, but there are also several fully finished works decorating the covers of individual volumes in the classic edition.
A comic book that is fun to read
Regardless of its shortcomings, Lost Earth Complaint is actually a very good position. The comic is read with pleasure and breathlessness. Its magical atmosphere can delight, and also take us back to childhood, when we watched the fight between good and evil with great joy and the two-dimensionality of the characters did not bother us at all.
