A series about the samurai Usagim will be created

Netflix has announced the series based on the samurai rabbit comic series by Stan Sakai. The production will be computer animation.

Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles will not be an adaptation of any particular comic book. Instead, it was decided to tell the story of one of Miyamoto Usagi’s descendants, the teenage Yuichi. The action is to be embedded in the future. The main character of the series sets off on an epic journey to become a true samurai. However, he will not be alone. He will be accompanied by a rogue bounty hunter, a cunning ninja, a pickpocket acrobat and his tame lizard.

Stan Sakai and James Wan are the executive producers of the series. For Gaumont Animation, the work will be supervised by Nicolan Atlan, Teery Kalagian, Sidonie Dumas and Christophe Riandee. Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg and Chris Tongue of Dark Horse Entertainment are also involved in the project. Ben Jones (DC animated universe) is supervising producer and Khang Le is art director. Studio 88 Pictures will create animations for the series.

Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles is the first production focused on the samurai rabbit (though not the one from the comics). However, the original Usagi has already made his debut on the small screen. Since 1989, he has appeared several times in serials about the Ninja Turtles.
