The world premiere of the first part of The Conjuring took place on July 19, 2013. Since then, films about the experiences of famous paranormal researchers have enjoyed a growing popularity among horror movie lovers. We could watch the premiere of the last of them (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) quite recently, in June 2021. Whether it’s a haunted house or a demon-possessed doll, movies from the The Conjuring universe are effective in making the viewer shiver.
Perhaps what draws us to these movies is the fact that the stories they describe are based on facts. After all, the Warren marriage was alive, and not so long ago – Lorraine Warren died in 2019. Their experiences are therefore still intriguing, full of phenomena that logic cannot explain. Yet these tragedies really happened, they concerned real places, objects and people. The Conjuring has undoubtedly become one of the most iconic horror films of our time.
In the first part, the Warrens arrive at a small, inconspicuous farm, where a terrified family is terrorized by one of the scariest demons in Ed and Lorraine’s careers. Researchers quickly learn that the tenants are tormented by the spirit of the witch Bathsheba, who once lived in the same house. So they declare their help in organizing exorcisms in order to chase away the demon and ensure the family peace.
The Conjuring was directed by James Wan and the script was written by Chad and Carey Hayes. Vera Farmiga starred as Lorraine Warren and Patrick Wilson as Ed Warren. On the screen we could also see Lili Taylor as Carolyn Perron and Ron Livingston as Roger Perron. The role of Bathseby was played by Joseph Bishara. The film was very well received by critics, winning the 2014 Saturn Award for Best Horror. In the same year, he also won 4 nominations, including for awards such as Critic’s Choice or MTV, and Rotten Tomatoes rated the production at 86%.
