During the D23 Expo, Disney finally revealed the first official trailer for the movie The Little Mermaid . Viewers will be able to dive into the sea again with the daughter of King Triton, Ariel, this time not in animation, but in a full-length film with real actors.
In the upcoming version of The Little Mermaid , Halle Bailey will play the role of the title character, Jacob Tremblay will be Florek, Sebastian Daveed Diggs and Prince Eric will be Jonah Hauer-King. In addition, Javier Bardem will play King Triton, and his rival, the sinister Ursula, Melissa McCarthy.
The production is directed by Rob Marshall ( Mary Poppins Returns ) and written by David Magee and Jane Goldman. Songs from the original 1989 animation will be used in the movie, as can be heard in the trailer, although Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda composed some new songs.
We will certainly get the previously unknown image of the Little Mermaid – the trailer shows that the heroine no longer has her characteristic red hair. The princess’s tail is not just green anymore – now it shimmers beautifully in different colors and is finished with an equally phenomenal fin. Soon we will see how the refreshed version of Ariel looks on the big screen.
