Kyouma Mabuchi – Collector
In such circumstances, we meet Kyouma, who deals with the acquisition of devices that allow the transport of energy from the W dimension, called cells. In carrying out his daily activities, he does not mind that – to put it mildly – he hates new technologies. However, one has to live on something, and since the machine market is controlled, there is a need for second-hand cells. During one of the next orders, however, the hero finds something much more valuable …
In the following volumes we will find, among others, a clash with the museum’s curator, the consequences of which may turn out to be regrettable, the mysterious death of a famous horror writer, the search for a mysterious link called “The Number” and a tragedy from over twenty years ago awaiting the final explanation.
Interesting world and interesting characters
At the beginning of the story, the heroes and principles that govern the presented world are introduced. In addition to Mabuchi and his friends, we meet a few people associated with the New Tesla Energy corporation, the man responsible for the discovery of an additional dimension, and his daughter Mira, whose fate will be related to Kyouma as a result of the story events. Dimension Wcan draw you, and in the first four volumes I found everything my heart desires: heroes made of flesh and blood, an interesting plot that gives a huge field to show off and a beautiful line. The characters are designed with great attention to detail and they are diverse. The backgrounds also look similar. Drawings by Yuji Iwahara, the author of the whole manga, can be compiled without losing any realism (I mainly refer to the anatomy of the characters). Such beautiful works even ask for a larger format.
Standard Waneko
As far as the release is concerned, there are no major differences compared to what we are used to by Waneko. The mangas are covered with very nice, colorful dust jackets with varnished elements. At the beginning of the volumes, we find a few colored pages printed on chalk paper. At the end of the add-ons, we get some information about the world of the future. The rest of the print (naturally in black) is fine, however there were occasional minor errors in the form of black dots. I rate the translation by Mateusz Makowski very positively, the dialogues are natural and reflect the characters’ characters well. Onomatopoeias were also postponed. I found a few small linguistic mishaps and missing letters, but they had little impact on the perception of the whole thing.
Summary
Dimension W surprised me a lot and I look forward to the continuation of this story. Dread to think what the author is still able to show in this very interesting world of the future, filled with interesting heroes. Reviews of the next volumes will most likely be more story-driven, and hence more spoilers, as I don’t anticipate major changes to the visuals. The W dimension drew me in for a longer time and I hope that this high level will be maintained until the end of the series.
