The official LEGO Twitter account posted a short trailer yesterday, in which a reporter is about to tell a big story about 2K’s new LEGO car game, before she finds out she’s not allowed to present anything! Behind the journalist, we can see two posters, one showing “Octane Racing” and the other “Vita Rush Racing”. It is clear that it will be a racing game set in the LEGO universe, but apparently both companies are waiting for something beyond that to be revealed.
You can find the trailer of the new video game LEGO in the tweet below.
The LEGO franchise has spawned countless video games over the years, including some based on “traditional” LEGO designs and minifigures like LEGO City Undercover, as well as licensed crossover games like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 . From the video, it seems pretty obvious that it’s not going to be a game based on a specific license. Hopefully Thursday’s announcement will have lots of details on the game, including opening a window for a release date and some gameplay footage.
If this is truly the new LEGO Racing, it’s worth noting that it wouldn’t be the first game of its kind. LEGO Racers was released for PC, PlayStation and Nintendo 64 in 1999. Players could take part in many different races in single-user mode, and local multiplayer was also available. The catch was that players could unlock new bricks and minifigure accessories, which they could then use to create their own custom designs. While the game had its fans, LEGO and 2K Games could improve on that formula in a number of ways, especially on modern platforms. For now, fans will have to wait patiently to see what to expect from this game!
On March 23 , LEGO and 2K Games will reveal more details about the new video game.
