The Hollywood Reporter was the first to inform about everything. The film is to be created by Disney’s 20th Century Studios. The producer of the picture will be Don Murphy, who served the same function during the previous adaptation. He will be joined by Susan Montford and Erwin Stoff. Justin Haythe will write the script. The production is to be intended for the Hulu streaming service. The release date remains unknown for now.
The first adaptation of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen hit theaters in 2003. It was loosely related to the source material. The common denominators with the works of Moore and O’Neill were the setting of the action at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and the composition of the heroes’ team. Sean Connery, Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng and Richard Roxburgh appeared in the film nearly twenty years ago. Unfortunately, the picture did not meet the expectations of the viewers and the studio.
The first graphic novel in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series was published in 1999. The main characters are characters of various novels and short stories who fight evil together. The team included, among others Allan Quatermain, Wilhemina Murray, Captain Nemo or Dr. Jekyll with his alter ego Mr. Hyde. The composition of the group has changed several times, and its counterparts have even been created in other countries.
