The sixth season of Rick and Morty will appear on the adult programming block of Adult Swim in less than a week, but one of the producers behind this season has revealed that production of the eighth installment of the series has already begun! When it was announced that Rick and Morty had been selected for 70 consecutive episodes at the time of season four’s release, the question was whether this would lead to less anticipation between seasons. Rick and Morty’s crew did indeed move forward in creating the next seasons.
Ahead of Rick and Morty season six, fans were given the latest news on the show’s seventh season, but in a recent Inverse interview celebrating the upcoming episodes, showrunner Scott Marder and producer James Siciliano revealed that season eight had already begun. The 6th and 7th seasons have already passed to the next stages of development as part of production. In fact, the team behind the show is hoping to be able to hold onto the schedule of one new season a year.
Opening up about the workload currently facing Rick and Morty ‘s crew, Sicilliano revealed that they are juggling quite a number of seasons of the show at once:
“This is an unbelievable amount that we have on our minds. I don’t know how much we can talk about it, but when it comes to production, season six is coming out soon and season seven is in production. We are also currently working on the script for Season Eight. “
This increased speed and the potential for further story-linking between each new episode of the series definitely makes the anticipation of each season more difficult than ever, but thankfully, Rick and Morty ‘s sixth season will premiere on Adult Swim on September 4.
