A movie about an egg with a hen and a fox in the background – review of the game “Game with an egg”

When I hear about items referring to chickens and offspring, I immediately see a picture of a dinosaur among the games – Russian eggs , where you had to catch them in a basket, and the pace grew with each new level. And this is how the oval motif appeared in various books and movies, and now it’s time for games again. Muduko publishing house provided fans with an interesting title – Game with an egg , in which the participants play the roles of the directors of the film.

Who is behind it?

Muduko is a company operating since 2020, but they have been gaining knowledge for a long time, namely since 1947, when Krakowskie Zakłady Wyrobów Papierowych was established. It offers all kinds of games: party, family, card, cards and educational products for young fans. Their mission is to bring joy, to bring players to the magical world, to make time spent with loved ones a pleasure. If we summarized the above in one word, it would be “emotions”. I also appreciate the fact that they listen to recipients in order to adapt the assortment to their needs.

What is this all about?

Playing with an egg is a complete novelty in the offer and something unheard of so far. It was created by Charles Bossart and the illustrations were done by Pauline Berdal. Intended for players from the age of seven, this crazy card game consists in counting the eggs appearing on the cards – when five of them appear, the film is cut. The title is based on the assumption that the Cannes Film Festival is underway, and the dog Frędzel – one of the game’s heroes – mixed up the reels of the film shortly before the screening. During this chaos, the participants help Kokoszka repair the damage, and Jajcarz try to protect him from a nervous collapse. You have to fix the error as soon as possible and there is no time to waste, after all, the fifth piece of the oval object ends the whole thing. The cast, who wants to thwart everyone else, disturbs the hardships.

A small thing, but it enjoys

The small box contains fifty-five actor cards: nineteen eggs, ten chickens and foxes, one farmer and a rooster, two foxes dressed as chickens, dogs, ducks, earthworms, ostrich eggs, and four empty twenty-four tokens for eight pieces of eggs and a one-card instruction. At the beginning, the director is chosen – for the round or the whole game. He places cardboard boxes one on top of the other in the center, which make up the film. The rest of the participants count the eggs. In the beginning, there are only three actors: Jajcarz (egg), Kokoszka (hen), and Grrr (fox) in the following proportions: fifteen, and the second and third each ten.

Rules are important

There are many combinations, but the rules are quite simple: when the egg is alone, it becomes available in the frame. They are kidnapped by an emerging hen, while the fox kidnaps them, thanks to which the oval object returns to the game. Participants must cut, if the number reaches five, the fastest person scores, then proceed to the next round. The participant who scores three points and places a colored shape wins! All companions must agree to end this stage. If in doubt, the Director’s task is to present the course of the entire game in the form of a slow-motion project.

What about the stars of this production?

There are several actors throughout the screening and it is best to be reasonable in terms of their number. In addition to the aforementioned, you can also find: Tosia Duck, Rococo Rooster, Pink Compost Tree Earthworm, Baryła Ostrich Egg, Wieśka Farmer, Frędzel Dog. In order for a character to be used, it must be played after the card with which it is to interact. There are a number of variants that the Director can use, and all of them have been listed in the manual as so-called modifications. It should be added that in the two-person option, the cards are arranged alternately and there is no main commanding person.

Time to count. You get one for each cut, and if you make a mistake about the number of eggs in the film, you get nothing, but you don’t lose either. Participants agreeing to stop the film do not get points, and all those who questioned them either drop or get a point, depending on whether they were right or not. The first participant to score three points wins.

You can play with your eyes too

Playing with the eggis an uncomplicated card game that tempts with beautiful graphics and an interesting idea with the use of a movie theme. I must admit that my attention was drawn to the pictures of the huge eyes of the Duck, the cheeky Farmer or the disguised Fox. They definitely make the game more pleasant. As you can see, the rules are simple, clear and understandable, and the manual itself is handy and not confusing. The turns are short, specific; I must admit that it is both a plus and a minus, because it will not be a rarity for long-distance players. After a few games, I must admit that the game is extremely addictive, and the idea presented makes you feel as if you are creating your own work. From the technical side, the game is done well, although the cards could be stiffer – in their current form, unfortunately, they bend quite easily and I suspect that in the long run they will start to deteriorate.

Famous mechanic?

I have the impression that the creator based the mechanics a bit on a memory game, where you have to remember matching pictures. In this case, you have to count the number of eggs and not make a mistake in the process, as it may cost you to donate a point. You have to be focused and concentrate all your attention on the sheets spread out on the table. Remember: what, who, where, when and how many ovals are actually available. Each newly introduced card causes confusion, and the human must remember that the gameplay has been moved to the next level.

The artwork is wonderful. Minimalistic, specific, without unnecessary ornaments. The title will surely hit audiences all over the country. The fact that this is a differently created version of a memory game deserves a big plus. Blank cards add flavor, you can create even more combinations. Playing with an egg is a fast, dynamic and interesting proposition for lazy evenings for the whole family. Despite the producer’s suggestions, children under seven can easily play it. I tested a version for two and with a larger team. I have the impression that the first option is a bit more difficult.
