The first volume of the Drift World first of all amazed me with the amazing projects of fantastic creatures. Will the sequel be equally fascinating?
The witch is attacking!
The previous volume ended with Dellric and Ysabeau meeting the Red Wizard. This is where the second volume begins. The main character tries to remember who she was in the human world, and the kobold uses her magical abilities to help her. Meanwhile, the thief Dellric uses the Red Wizard’s slaves to carry his purchases. In addition, a delegation of trolls arrives in Muroc for peace talks. Of course, the main antagonist of this series is also not sitting with her arms folded. Not only that, he decides to launch another invasion of the Drift World. There is no doubt that a lot is happening and there is no respite. At times, you can even get the impression that the plot is running a bit too fast. It’s a pity, because the World of Drift has a lot to offer, and due to the fact that the author focuses primarily on the main plot, the reader has no opportunity to get to know the magical creatures inhabiting this amazing universe.
The red wizard and his entourage
It is impossible not to like the main characters. Dellric is a sneaky smart who not only looks comical, but also performs amazing actions. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the plot of the second volume focuses on Ysabeu’s past, I had the impression that his role had been slightly marginalized. The Red Wizard is a nice magician who, above all, stands out due to his appearance. Namely, it has one eye larger than the other, and only thanks to this it is remembered for longer. Queen Muroc is worth mentioning among the episodic characters. As befits a person of her position, she is antipathetic and gets mad easily. I also like all the elves of low blood, because they look comical with teeth like beavers.
A fascinating world of fantasy
Undoubtedly, Ken Broeders has a great idea for his universe. The plot is not overly original, but that’s not the most important thing. I was most captivated by its colorful and fascinating world. The creatures’ brilliant designs contributed to this, as well as the really brilliant dash. In this volume I liked, for example, the skilful depiction of the spreading shock wave. I almost felt her power, like some heroes!
Does the World of Drift still have many secrets?
It’s worth noting that Ken Broeders has a million ideas. This can be seen in the addition, filled with sketches of characters that did not appear in this volume. The author drew me into his story. I am already looking forward to the finale of this story. Finally, let me just add that, for some reason, the page separating the main story from the extras has not been translated. I suppose some imp from the Drift World mixed up in the publishing house, which is very likely, because in this volume we can see that these rascals jumped to the human world from time to time to make trouble there!
