A good card game is not bad – a list of card games for Card Game Day

Today we celebrate Card Game Day. On this occasion, we present our editors’ favorite card games. We will certainly celebrate this holiday with more than one game, to which we also encourage you.

Magic: The Gathering

Can you imagine a world of card games without Magic: The Gathering ? I personally cannot. After all, it is one of the precursors of collector’s card games and the so-called deck builders, without which several other titles would probably not be created. In addition, its popularity probably surprised even the creator himself – Richard Garfield. It was this mathematician who developed the whole system and published it in 1993 with the help of Wizards of the Coast. Although 28 years have passed since then, M: TG is still recognized among players and has already gained the status of a true legend of the genre. Let’s add that new editions are still being made, and the number of fans is constantly growing.

A whole universe was also created, telling the story of the characters that we can see on the cards. There are also tournaments where players from all over the world compete for the title of the best, and also for prizes. Up to $ 70,000 is set for the winner! If you’ve also played this card game and still have cards from older editions, maybe it’s worth taking a look at them. Collectors are willing to pay a lot for unique items. The most expensive card so far, the Black Lotus Alpha Edition, has been sold for $ 511,100! However, the game itself is not money, but the pleasure of having a good time. And this one will certainly be a lot both when building the deck and during the game itself. So sit down at the tables and get carried away by this extraordinary entertainment!

Mindbug

Mindbug is a small, inconspicuous game created by the creator of such a little popular game as Magic: the Gathering . The mechanics are basically similar. In both, we put monsters on the battlefield, which will hurt our opponent with a song on their lips or die trying.

The second, main “twist” in the game are the title special “mindbug” cards, which take over the opponent’s just placed card. A simple procedure, and it mixes strongly in our plans every time. In this game, we will often deal with “play the A or B monster?” A is better, but if I play it, the opponent will take it over, B is also good, and he can provoke the opponent to take over, then A will be safe. ”

Despite the few cards and abilities of the monsters, Mindbug will provide us with a lot of replayability and replayability.

urban planner

I like large games with a lot of elements, but I appreciate the most modest projects, which prove that sometimes only a few dozen cards are enough to make an incredibly playable and brilliant game. In Urbanista, we build a city from just fifteen cards, and the remaining three out of eighteen tell us what we get victory points for, and at the same time determine the threshold that we must cross to win. It seems simple, doesn’t it? But if you have to worry about it, not to mention the gigantic replayability, you can just play and play it all the time. I am enchanted by this title, it is simply the best card game I have ever played and also the best solo game. The urban planner is the real diamond in the world of board games!

Marvel Champions / Sentinels of the Multiverse

As the lion is the king of the jungle, Marvel Champions is the king of card games. Believe me, I really wanted to write about something else this time, but my card case growls angrily at the mere thought. I have praised the multiplicity of mechanics and modularity so many times that repetition could be considered a bullying this time, so I will mention the game, which is its distant uncle and in a way certainly a prototype (I know there is AH and LOTR 🙂).

Sentinels of the Multiverse – a game in principle very similar, based on a fictional world of superheroes created especially for it, also modular with many options, but without deck building and with a much greater proportion of counting; in some dependencies, you can get so confused that some have switched to the Steam version, but it’s not for me. I have a lot of fun with Sentinels , treating them as a variation from Champions . However, there is only one king – I’m already looking forward to the next additions.

Amazonia

The Amazon was released at the end of the year, but it definitely won my heart. The game is completely ecological, so no plastic has the right to appear. In addition, everything is thought out and nothing flies too much around the box and there are paper bags. The game is all about playing cards correctly and choosing them in the most advantageous way. However, you have to remember that once you get rid of a set, you cannot return to it.

The Amazon plays best with two people, but there are also variants for three or four players and a solo act. The title is about completing your cards in such a way as to defeat your opponent and counteract natural disasters, drought and diseases. I must admit that the beautiful graphics and green and blue colors effectively attracted me to the title and I do not regret it.
