A game of associations – a review of the card game “Time’s Up! Party “

Time’s Up! A party is one of the more universal proposals – it will be perfect for regular social meetings and it will easily absorb new people in our group and, above all, beginners. Such entertainment will not only organize the time spent together, but will also involve everyone equally! We cannot only procrastinate, because after turning the hourglass our time is very limited …

In a large group!

In Time’s Up! Four to twelve people can play a party at the same time. The wide range allows for different variants, but definitely the more players – the more interesting. Explaining the rules and preparing for the game takes a few minutes, because the game combines rules with Tabooand uses elements of pantomime. The package includes, of course, a neat manual, a list of passwords, a notebook for recording the results, our basic tool for measuring time, i.e. an hourglass, and the essence of the game, i.e. 220 cards with a tasteful bag for storing them. There are two passwords on each of them, which means that there are 440 items to guess in total. We can find real or fictional characters, buildings, films, works of literature, and at a different level of difficulty. While most may have no problem knowing the Eiffel Tower, a twelve-year-old may not know who Thomas Judy is. Therefore, a single game is limited to a specific number of cards that all players choose before the game begins. Everyone gets the same amount and has the opportunity to read the passwords, and discard the two most difficult cards to explain. They are all shuffled and stacked together. You still have to split into two teams and we can start!

Hit the point

The game consists of three stages, each of which is gradually more difficult as it limits our media more and more. The first round is nothing more than a Taboo game. Each player has to describe as many slogans as possible under the pressure of sand falling in the hourglass. Teams take turns to use their thirty seconds to guess passwords, each equal to a victory point. In the second phase of the game, it’s not time that is our greatest challenge, but finding just one right word that will allow others to get on the right track. However, it is the third round that introduces the most fun and humor, when no one can say absolutely anything anymore, and instead we show the randomly drawn password. The permission to make sounds and humming may be a facilitation, but of course it depends on the associations of the players. The fact that we constantly use the same forty cards in all phases makes Time’s Up!not only a game that tests knowledge, but also our memory and the ability to associate! The entire game lasts from 30 to 40 minutes.

Summary

Diversity is introduced by elements of pantomime, taking some of the rules from Taboo and a wide range of slogans. Choosing cards for the entire game means that it is not only knowledge of characters, architecture, films and literature that determines the victory, but also remembering and the ability to associate. The division into teams and – therefore – a bit of competition positively engage in the game. The whole company is united in a larger group, because everyone has the same chances and the same course of the turn. And the time spent with Time’s Up! it is mostly fun, but it is also an excuse to learn something about yourself – about your interests and tastes in film and literature. A solidly made, asymmetrical box will look great on the player’s proud shelf.
