As some might have expected, Sega is planning even more news for 2023. Iizuka spoke to Famitsu (via Gematsu ) during the year roundups about the developers’ ambitions and goals for 2023. The Japanese developer has worked on multiple Sonic the Hedgehog projects over the years. He talked about some of the brand’s successes this year, while also mentioning what he called the “second wave” that all Sonic fans are waiting for.
Last year was the biggest year in Sonic history , starting with the movie sequel, followed by the release of Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers , and the Netflix animation Sonic Prime . This year, we’re getting ready to follow suit and create a second wave that will delight our fans. We have already announced the distribution of additional content for Sonic Frontiers , but there is much more to come, so stay tuned.

The new Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie is also coming , but we have to wait longer for it, as it is not due out until 2024. Paramount announced the official release date of December 20, 2024, so we are still a year away from the premiere.
