The House between the Clouds begins a new series of fantasy tales of Ostróda . The debut of the author, C. Klobuch, turned out to be another interesting title this year.
Great Kingdom of Ostróda
Centuries have passed since the expulsion of the steppe warriors who attacked the eastern frontier, part of the Kingdom of Poncia. However, the price of the victory turned out to be high, and the effects of the war are still being felt. The enemies are gathering their strength again. When they hit with redoubled force, Ostróda may not survive it.
The dark-skinned foreigner Koro devotes his life to training Ortis – a great bird that can carry a human on its back. These creatures are dangerous, and in combat they can kill with one hit. Taming the bird turns out to be quite a challenge. Ostróda commander Derwan hopes that Koro will be able to fulfill his task. Whether or not he can implement his own plan for Ortis depends on it. In the event of failure, there is a great chance that the nomads who are about to invade the Kingdom will win. Even so, Derwan is unable to trust Koro. In the meantime, we also meet Tami, Derwan’s cousin, who doesn’t like city life. He dreams of a quiet life in the countryside and will do anything to achieve his goal.
A world full of magic
The author has created a diverse world full of interesting creatures that live with people. Klobuch describes in detail the surroundings, everyday life of the heroes, and even occult practices used by some of the population. Everything has been well thought out and written in language that should appeal to everyone. The heroes are interesting and diverse. Sometimes it’s hard to predict the decisions they make. All these elements, combined with the fast-paced action and descriptions of the combat scenes, constitute a huge plus of this novel. For me, however, the best moments in the book are the attempts to tame Ortis. The only thing that did not impress me was the romance thread. It didn’t make my heart beat faster.
The whole is complemented by a beautiful cover, filled with graphics with blue wings. You just want to have such a book on your shelf. This is another great offer of the Zysk i S-ka publishing house. We can put it next to such books as God’s Name or Rotherweird Town .
Summary
The house between the clouds strongly stimulates the reader’s imagination. The book should appeal to fantasy lovers , because practically everything has been carefully thought out here. Fortunately, the plot of the first book in the series does not stop halfway, as is sometimes the case with the series. I definitely feel encouraged to experience more adventures within the borders of the Great Kingdom of Ostróda.
