John Benjamin Hickey, who recently won a Tony Award nomination for his performance in Dark Fall, is poised to appear in the upcoming Stephen King adaptation of Salem’s Lot.
Hickey will play the role of Father Callahan. He is currently getting ready for his Broadway directorial debut and wants to present his own version of the Plaza Suite .
Previously, James Gallery (1979 – mini series based on the book), Nigel Anthony (1995 – BBC radio play), James Cromwell (2004 – mini series) appeared in this role. Hickey is best known for his Broadway appearances, but he has also had his adventures with television, including: The Big C, In Treatment, Modern Family, Hannibal . He has appeared on the big screen in Pitch Perfect, Flags of Our Fathers, The Anniverary Party, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Deadline reports that in addition to Hickey, the cast will include Lewis Pullman starring Ben Mears, Alfre Woodard (Dr. Cody), Makenzie Leigh (Susan Norton), Bill Camp (Matthew Burke), Spencer Treat Clark (Mike Ryerson) and Pilou Asbæk (Straker). Gary Daubermann, who is behind the Annabelle series , will direct.
In the novel, Father Donald Callahan is a Catholic priest who is recruited by Mears and the rest to help get rid of the vampires as they have taken over the city. The violence and supernatural powers he experienced weakened his faith and ultimately a plan to use his relationship with God to chase away vampires.He only appeared in a small role in the 1979 mini-series, but had a prominent role in the book and other adaptations.
Salem’s Lot is another title from Stephen King’s long-term collection of designs to restore old creations. There was already Pet Sematary, the Castle Rock series , which brought together several separate stories into one.
The film is slated to hit theaters on September 9, 2022.
